Lesson Overview
In this B2 ESL lesson plan, students explore what makes someone a good driver and examine the different factors that can affect safety on the road. They begin by considering how drivers should deal with distractions, aggressive behaviour, difficult road conditions, and mistakes.
Students then watch a video about defensive driving, learning about issues including safe following distances, lane closures, distracted driving, road rage, and learning from mistakes. They practise listening and comprehension while considering how different driving choices can affect safety and other road users.
The lesson also includes driving vocabulary activities, a driving test with challenging real-life situations, and discussion questions in which students explain what they would do in different scenarios.
Students then study a series of images showing common driving problems and explain the risks involved and how the driver could respond more safely.
